NCDC Records 1565 COVID-19 Cases, 2nd Highest Daily Count

Nigeria Centre for Disease Control, NCDC has recorded 1565 COVID-19 infections on Thursday, which is the second highest daily count, after reporting 1664 in 24 hours.

The spike in infections has moved the agency to call for stricter adherence to safety measures by the public.

It expressed concern for increase in transmission and test positivity rate of COVID-19 in Nigeria, saying keeping to safety protocols is crucial at such a time.

Updating Nigerians during the Presidential Tasks Force daily update Thursday, on the efforts of the agency in curbing the spread of the disease so far, NCDC Head of Disease Surveillance, Elsie Ilori, said testing is the only way to know the actual burden of the infection.

“Testing is the only way to truly understand the burden of #COVID19, particularly now we‘re recording more cases than ever.

“Majority of our cases are aged 21-50, this poses a risk to the elderly and vulnerable populations. Stricter adherence to safety measures by the public is critical.

“We have worked tirelessly to increase capacity and access to #COVID19 testing across the country”, she said.

The agency disclosed that the new infections were recorded from 24 states, FCT inclusive with Lagos leading with 807 cases, followed by FCT with 236 infections.

Others are Kaduna-79, Oyo-57, Plateau-47, Rivers-37, Katsina-35, Edo-30, Sokoto-30, Delta-26, Kebbi-23, Ondo-20, Enugu-18, Abia-17, Ogun-17, Benue-16, Bayelsa-15, Bauchi-14, Niger-13, Kano-10.

Also Borno-6, Imo-5, Ekiti-4, OOsun2 and Jigawa-1.
Meanwhile Lagos had 314 community recoveries, Kaduna recorded 158 discharges and 84 in Plateau State managed in line with guidelines.
